A sudden blaze on a busy highway sparked urgent response from emergency crews, underscoring the hazards of roadside accidents.

Fire units from the Town of Clinton and Pattenburg responded to a motor‑vehicle accident on Route 78 West on Sunday evening, fighting a vehicle fire, treating reported injuries and clearing the scene within an hour, according to the Clinton Fire Department.

On Sunday evening, the Clinton Fire Department dispatched Squad 45 from the Town of Clinton and Engine 25 from Pattenburg to Route 78 West after a motor‑vehicle accident with reported injuries and fire was reported.

Squad 45 arrived first and placed a hand line into operation, quickly knocking down the bulk of the fire.

Engine 25 then pulled a secondary line to assist the effort, helping to secure the area.

All units cleared the scene within the hour, and no further injuries were reported. The exact cause of the fire is not yet known.
