A Stone County man is being held on a $75,000 bond after authorities allege he fought with five deputies, threatened law enforcement officers and threatened to kill his wife.
Ray Leon Mings, 60, of rural Mountain View faces 12 charges following his arrest during a reported domestic disturbance.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were sent to Mings’ residence after a caller reported that he was intoxicated and waiting near the property’s gate with multiple firearms.
The caller reportedly warned dispatchers that Mings had threatened to shoot law enforcement officers when they arrived.
DEPUTIES REPORTEDLY FIND 3 FIREARMS
Five Stone County deputies responded to the residence.
The affidavit alleges deputies found Mings passed out inside his truck with the keys in the ignition. Investigators reportedly found 3 firearms in the back of the truck.
Deputies awakened Mings and instructed him to exit the vehicle, but he allegedly refused. The affidavit says deputies removed Mings from the truck before he momentarily broke free and assumed what officers described as a fighting stance.
Deputies then used pepper spray while attempting to take him into custody.
Mings allegedly threatened the deputies, kicked 1 deputy in the torso and continued resisting while officers placed him inside a patrol vehicle.
SECOND STRUGGLE REPORTED AT JAIL
Authorities allege Mings continued fighting with deputies after arriving at the Stone County Jail. Officers eventually placed him in a restraint chair.
Mings reportedly refused to submit to a chemical test for suspected driving while intoxicated. Investigators then obtained a warrant authorizing a blood draw.
According to the affidavit, Mings made additional threats while deputies transported him to a hospital for the court-authorized blood draw.
ACCUSED OF THREATENING TO KILL WIFE
The affidavit alleges Mings said he would “take care” of his wife after being released from jail because she had called law enforcement.
Investigators said Mings then threatened to kill her.
The affidavit and court records cited in the case indicate Mings previously faced an arrest in Florida involving allegations of domestic battery and aggravated assault. An arrest does not establish that a person was convicted of an offense.
12 CHARGES FILED
Mings faces the following charges:
First-degree terroristic threatening — felony
Second-degree battery — felony
5 counts of attempting to influence a public servant
Resisting arrest with force
Disorderly conduct
Interference with a law enforcement officer
Driving while intoxicated
Refusal to submit to a chemical test
Mings remained in the Stone County Jail with bond set at $75,000, according to the information provided.
The allegations contained in a probable cause affidavit represent the investigating agency’s version of events. Mings is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
