Lives are changing across Arkansas through the Adult Education program at ASU-Beebe’s Searcy campus, where scholarships, GED assistance, and workforce training opportunities are helping students build brighter futures.
During ArkansasRadio.com’s Open Mic program, Adult Education Director Gina Ramey shared how the program is helping people of all ages gain new skills and advance their careers through grant-funded scholarships and training opportunities.
Ramey said the program offers assistance in high-demand career fields including welding and computerized machining, with some graduates qualifying for jobs starting at more than $55,000 a year.
The program is also helping many single mothers and working adults return to school while balancing jobs and raising families.
One student, Iesha, shared her powerful journey of overcoming an abusive relationship, raising children, and continuing her education for years before finally earning her GED and welding certification.
Iesha said the encouragement from her family and instructors helped her continue pushing forward despite challenges. She earned both her basic welding certificate and OSHA 10 certification through the program.
