Arkansas Speed Enforcement Campaign Begins July 10 to Reduce Speeding Fatalities

, , Leave a comment

Drivers across Arkansas can expect to see more law enforcement officers on highways and local roads beginning July 10 as the Arkansas State Police Highway Safety Office joins agencies statewide for the national “Speeding Slows You Down” enforcement campaign.

The increased enforcement effort runs July 10 through July 31 and is designed to reduce speeding-related crashes and save lives by encouraging motorists to obey posted speed limits.

According to the Arkansas Highway Safety Office, speeding remains one of the leading causes of fatal crashes. During 2024, Arkansas recorded 603 traffic fatalities, with 139 deaths (23%) linked to speeding. Nationwide, speeding contributed to 11,288 traffic deaths, accounting for 29% of all fatal crashes.

Officials remind drivers that speeding reduces reaction time, increases stopping distance, and makes crashes more severe. Drivers are also urged to slow down during rain, heavy traffic, construction zones, and other hazardous road conditions—even when traveling at the posted speed limit.

Arkansas Public Safety Secretary Colonel Mike Hagar says speed limits exist to protect everyone on the road, adding that every mile per hour over the limit increases crash risk and the likelihood of serious injuries.

State officials encourage all motorists to slow down, buckle up, eliminate distractions, and help make Arkansas highways safer during the enforcement campaign.
