Americans across Arkansas and the nation are celebrating Flag Day on June 14, honoring the adoption of the United States flag and the freedoms it represents.

Flag Day commemorates June 14, 1777, when the Continental Congress approved the design of the nation’s first official flag. More than 249 years later, the Stars and Stripes remains one of the most recognized symbols of freedom and patriotism in the world.

Communities throughout Arkansas are marking the occasion by displaying American flags, hosting patriotic events, and reflecting on the sacrifices made by military service members, veterans, and generations of Americans who have defended the nation.

Flag Day also serves as an opportunity for citizens to learn about proper flag etiquette, including respectful display and retirement of worn flags.

As the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary in 2026, Flag Day carries added significance as Americans reflect on the nation’s history, values, and future.

From small towns to major cities, the American flag continues to symbolize unity, liberty, and hope for generations of Americans.
