Midland School Breaks Ground on New High School in Pleasant Plains Arkansas

The Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a major milestone as the Midland School District broke ground on a new high school addition and cafeteria at 741 Main St. in Pleasant Plains Arkansas.

The ceremony began with a spirited performance from the Midland Mustangs Cheer Team, setting the tone for a celebration centered on progress, pride, and the future of rural education.

Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Crystal Johnson highlighted the importance of investing in safe and innovative learning environments.

“This project represents exactly what we dream of in building a stronger future through education,” Johnson said.

Superintendent Toby Crosby reflected on the district’s history since the 1986 consolidation of Pleasant Plains and Floral, emphasizing the project as a commitment to opportunity.

Incoming K-12 Principal Cindy Armstrong praised the community’s support, while Student Council President Andee Whitener said the new facility represents opportunity and belief in future generations.

Former Midland Elementary Principal Bani’ Meharg shared reflections spanning more than 50 years with the district, while FARCO Contractors representative Taylor Meharg expressed appreciation for the trust placed in their team.

Arkansas State Representative Shad Pierce called rural schools the “heartbeat” of communities, reinforcing the importance of continued investment.

The ceremony concluded with a ceremonial shovel turn involving students, staff, and community leaders, officially launching construction on a project designed to serve generations to come.

The new high school and cafeteria will provide modern learning spaces, expanded opportunities, and a stronger sense of community for Midland students.
