A long-standing Independence Day tradition is returning to Beebe as Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7769 prepares to host its annual Community Fish Fry and Flag Retirement Ceremony on Saturday, July 4.

The free event will take place from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and is open to the public. Organizers say the fish fry has been a community favorite for more than 30 years and continues to grow thanks to the support of local sponsors and volunteers.

Along with enjoying a free meal, attendees will have the opportunity to witness a special Flag Retirement Ceremony. The ceremony will respectfully retire American flags that community members have brought to the post throughout the past year.

Organizers note that carry-out meals will not be available, with the exception of local law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel and other first responders who may be unable to attend due to duty obligations.

Last year’s fish fry was one of the largest in the event’s history, and organizers hope to make this year’s celebration even bigger as the community gathers to celebrate Independence Day, honor veterans and properly retire worn American flags.

Residents are encouraged to mark their calendars and bring family and friends for an afternoon of food, fellowship and patriotic tradition.
