A new nationwide study has ranked Arkansas among the states with the highest heart disease death rates in the United States, raising concerns about long-term health trends across the region.

The research from NiceRx found Arkansas ranks 4th in the country, with 8,443 deaths and a rate of 218.8 deaths per 100,000 people.
States topping the list include Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Alabama, all reporting higher-than-average rates linked to factors such as obesity, diet, and smoking.
Health experts say lifestyle plays a major role. Nationwide, more than 172 million adults are overweight or obese, increasing risks for high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease.
Experts recommend improving diet, increasing physical activity, and reducing processed foods to lower risk. In some cases, medically supervised weight-loss treatments may also help reduce long-term cardiovascular issues.
