The City of Cabot and Halff Associates are inviting residents and community leaders to attend a groundbreaking ceremony celebrating the start of construction on the first segment of the LOCOMUT Trail.

The ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Park Event Center located at 508 North Lincoln Street in Cabot.
The LOCOMUT Trail is a planned multi-use trail system designed to improve connectivity, recreation opportunities and quality of life throughout Lonoke County. Once completed, the trail network will connect communities across the county and tie into the future 220-mile Central Arkansas Greenway System.
The first phase of construction, funded through Metroplan, will be built along Lincoln Street from Highway 89 east toward Highway 38. Future phases are expected to create connections between downtown Cabot, downtown Austin, schools, parks, neighborhoods and other community destinations.
Halff Associates serves as the lead planning and engineering firm for the project and has worked alongside city leaders and regional partners to advance the vision of a connected transportation and recreation network.
“This groundbreaking represents the first step in bringing the LOCOMUT Trail vision to life,” said Cabot Mayor Ken Kincade. “We are excited to partner with Halff and our regional stakeholders to create a trail system that will benefit residents for generations and further connect Cabot to the broader Central Arkansas trail network.”
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the project, view maps and renderings and participate in the ceremonial groundbreaking.
The event is open to the public.
