A student from Heber Springs is among the first selected for a new medical school pathway at Arkansas State University.

Lynnlee Presley has been named to the inaugural Freshman to Physician (F2P) cohort, a program created in partnership with New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. The program allows students to secure early admission to medical school during their first year of college.

Officials say the program is designed to help more Arkansas students enter the medical field by reducing barriers and providing early mentorship.

Students selected must meet strict academic requirements, including a minimum ACT score of 26 or SAT score of 1100, and rank in the top 10% of their graduating class.

Program leaders say the pathway removes the need for the MCAT and provides a direct route into medical school for qualified Arkansas residents.

Five other students from across the state were also selected for the first cohort.

University officials say the program will help train the next generation of physicians committed to serving communities across Arkansas. The next group of students will be selected in spring 2027.
