The Arkansas Department of Transportation will kick off National Work Zone Awareness Week with a special event focused on safety and remembrance.

The event is scheduled for 11 AM Friday April 17 2026 at the Fallen Worker Memorial located on the ARDOT Central Office grounds in Little Rock Arkansas.

Organizers say the program will include a powerful testimonial from the spouse of an ARDOT employee who was severely injured in a work zone, highlighting the real-life impact of roadway safety.

ARDOT will also present its first ever Safety Partner of the Year Award recognizing individuals or organizations that promote work zone safety across Arkansas.

Attendees will have the opportunity to view the new documentary, β€œThe Making of a Memorial,” which tells the story behind the Fallen Worker Memorial.

National Work Zone Awareness Week, observed April 20 through 24, is a nationwide campaign encouraging drivers to slow down and stay alert in construction zones.

ARDOT officials say ongoing initiatives such as the Slow Down Phone Down campaign, speed enforcement cameras, and handheld device detection systems are helping reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities in Arkansas work zones.

Leaders emphasize that safety is a shared responsibility between road crews and drivers, with the ultimate goal of reaching zero deaths on Arkansas highways.
