An 80-year-old Independence County man was killed Friday morning in a single-vehicle rollover crash near Newark, according to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report.

Arkansas State Police identified the deceased driver as Wilfred Conditt of Newport.
The crash happened at approximately 9:23 a.m. on August 21 at the intersection of State Highway 69 and Highway 69B in Independence County.
Conditt was driving a 2022 Ford Explorer north on Highway 69 when the vehicle left the roadway.
According to the preliminary crash narrative, the Ford traveled up an embankment, became airborne and rolled.
No other vehicles were listed in the report, and no additional injuries were reported.
Police reported clear weather and dry road conditions at the time of the crash. The preliminary report did not state why the vehicle left the roadway.
Conditt’s next of kin was notified, and his body was taken to Jackson’s Funeral Home.
Arkansas State Police Corporal Brandon Trewyn is listed as the investigating officer.
The crash was listed as Arkansas State Police Fatality Report 294 and Accident Report 282 for 2026. Information contained in preliminary crash reports may be updated as the investigation continues.
