The Arkansas State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is encouraging parents, caregivers, and communities across Arkansas to stay alert online during National Internet Safety Month.

Officials say summer months and the beginning of the school year historically bring an increase in online enticement cases involving children, making awareness and prevention especially important.

The Arkansas State Police ICAC Task Force says families should focus on proactive education, stronger privacy settings, and open communication to help protect children in today’s rapidly changing digital world.

Safety recommendations include learning more about Artificial Intelligence safety, reviewing social media privacy settings, using multi-factor authentication, and accessing trusted online safety resources.

Officials also encourage parents and community members to report suspicious online activity and possible exploitation through national reporting systems.

Recent Arkansas ICAC Task Force data shows increases in several concerning areas, including child sexual abuse material complaints and suicide threats involving online activity.

“While we’ve seen decreases in some categories, increases in others — especially child sexual abuse material complaints — show that the threat remains very real,” said Sgt. Corwin Battle, Commander of the Arkansas ICAC Task Force. “Awareness and early intervention are key to protecting children.”
