The Southside School District officially celebrated the completion of its major campus expansion and new arena Thursday during a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by community leaders, families, students, and supporters from across the region.
The Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce joined district officials, local leaders, and members of the Southside community on May 21, 2026, to mark the milestone project at the district’s junior and senior high school campus in Batesville.
District officials thanked the community for supporting the expansion project, calling it a major investment in the future of Southside students and schools.
The multi-million-dollar project added approximately 146,000 square feet of new facilities funded through a 2021 millage initiative approved by voters. Construction began in August 2023 and connected the new additions to the district’s existing junior and senior high school buildings.
The expansion includes new classrooms, advanced science and technology labs, upgraded athletic facilities, a fine arts suite, expanded cafeteria and dining areas, additional safe rooms, concession areas, arena seating, and improved security features designed to support continued growth throughout the district.
Southside School District leaders said the project reflects the district’s commitment to creating modern learning opportunities while improving safety and student experience for families across the area.
School officials also thanked the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce, community members, local leaders, and supporters who attended Thursday’s celebration and helped make the project possible.
