Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has announced Cabot will serve as Arkansas’ Capital for a Day on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
The designation is part of the governor’s “Capital for a Day” program, which brings senior state government officials into communities across Arkansas to meet with local leaders and residents.
Cabot will become the 24th Arkansas community to receive the Capital for a Day designation under Governor Sanders.
The governor’s proclamation highlights several major moments in Cabot’s history.
Cabot was incorporated on November 9, 1891, after the Cairo and Fulton Railroad came through the area in 1873. A water and fuel stop developed along the railroad and eventually became known as Cabot.
The proclamation also points to the formation of the Central Arkansas Milk Producers Association during the 1930s, which helped establish Cabot as an important farming community.
Cabot experienced significant growth beginning in 1942 following the opening of the Arkansas Ordnance Plant in nearby Jacksonville, as plant employees moved into the surrounding area.
The governor also recognized Cabot’s recovery following a devastating tornado in 1976. The city later created CabotFest to commemorate the community’s resilience and rebuilding.
Governor Sanders said the Capital for a Day program is designed to spotlight Arkansas communities while allowing state officials to meet directly with their local counterparts.
Under the September 30 designation, Cabot will temporarily serve as Arkansas’ seat of government while Governor Sanders and senior state officials visit the city.
The proclamation officially naming Cabot Capital for a Day was signed September 28, 2026.
