An 85-year-old Illinois woman was killed in an early morning crash on Interstate 57 near Newport, according to the Arkansas State Police.
The fatal crash happened at 4:19 a.m. Friday, July 3, near the 84-mile marker on northbound I-57 in Jackson County.
According to the preliminary Arkansas State Police fatal crash report, Carol Fowler, 85, of New Lenox, Illinois, was a pedestrian who entered the roadway and was struck by a 2021 Toyota Corolla traveling northbound.
Fowler was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was transported to Jackson Funeral Home.
Troopers reported weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash. No injuries to the driver were reported.
The crash remains under investigation by Arkansas State Police Trooper Nicholas Ade.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
