Lyon College officially celebrated the grand opening of the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine Patient Care Clinic Wednesday in Little Rock Arkansas.
The new clinic, located at 5 Allied Drive in the Riverdale neighborhood, represents a major expansion of dental education and patient care access across Arkansas.
College leaders, city officials, community partners, and healthcare supporters gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and facility tour highlighting the school’s commitment to training future dental professionals while increasing affordable oral healthcare options for Arkansans.
Dr. Burke Soffe, founding dean of the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine, said the clinic reflects the school’s mission of educating highly trained dental professionals while delivering compassionate patient care throughout the state.
Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. announced a new partnership between the dental school, the City of Little Rock, and the Little Rock Cares Fund to support a Patient Assistance Fund designed to help uninsured and low-income patients receive dental treatment.
According to Lyon College officials, national data estimates between 15% and 25% of patients are unable to pay for dental care, with that number increasing to nearly 30% among uninsured and low-income populations.
Dr. Melissa Taverner, president of Lyon College, said the facility creates opportunities for students to gain hands-on clinical experience while meeting oral health needs throughout Arkansas.
The teaching clinic offers supervised care provided by student dentists working alongside licensed faculty and experienced clinical staff.
Services include dental cleanings and exams, fillings, porcelain crowns and bridges, root canals, extractions, dentures and partials, implant therapy, clear aligner therapy, and advanced digital imaging with 3D technology.
Officials said the clinic was designed to provide affordable, high-quality dental care while helping students prepare for real-world practice in a modern clinical setting.
