Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will speak at Harding University at 7:30 PM Monday, October 12, as the American Studies Institute opens its fall Distinguished Lecture Series.

Johnson’s appearance will bring a former world leader to Searcy for a presentation hosted by Harding’s American Studies Institute.
JOHNSON’S CAREER IN PUBLIC SERVICE
Johnson served as prime minister of the United Kingdom from 2019 to 2022. His public service also included roles as leader of the Conservative Party, foreign secretary and mayor of London.
In 2019, he led the Conservative Party to its largest House of Commons majority since 1987. His government completed the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union, known as Brexit, following the 2016 referendum.
During his time as prime minister, his government pursued initiatives involving infrastructure, education, technology and regional economic development.
Johnson also led the United Kingdom during the COVID-19 pandemic, including its vaccination rollout and the reopening of the economy. He became a prominent supporter of Ukraine following Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
The United Kingdom hosted the COP26 climate summit during his tenure, when participating nations reached the Glasgow Climate Pact.
FROM LONDON MAYOR TO AUTHOR
Johnson entered Parliament in 2001 and later served 2 terms as mayor of London.
His time as mayor included the 2012 Olympic Games and transportation initiatives involving the Routemaster bus and London’s cycle-hire program.
Johnson is also a journalist and author. His books include “The Churchill Factor” and “Unleashed.”
