The White County Quorum Court has appointed George Brown to serve as White County judge through the end of 2026.

Brown, the husband of late White County Judge Lisa Brown, assumes the position effective immediately. His appointment fills the vacancy created by his wife’s death and provides leadership for county operations during the remainder of the current term.

Judge Lisa Brown died August 12 at age 59 following a battle with cancer. She was elected White County judge in 2022, began serving January 1, 2023, and was seeking another 4-year term. KATV reported that Brown had worked in the White County Judge’s Office for 16 years and previously spent 12 years with the White County District Court.

The county judge serves as White County’s chief executive and oversees county roads, property, facilities, budgets, emergency management and other county operations. White County’s official website also states that the judge administers ordinances approved by the quorum court and authorizes appropriated county expenditures.

George Brown’s appointment is separate from the process determining who will serve the new 4-year term beginning January 1, 2027.

The White County Republican Committee previously selected Heather Bryant as its nominee for the November general election. Bryant, an administrative assistant in the White County Judge’s Office, defeated White County Road Department Supervisor Edward Covington for the nomination.

Under Arkansas law, a quorum court fills a vacancy in an elective county office through a resolution. An appointed official serves the remainder of the unexpired term or until an elected successor is qualified.

George Brown’s appointment took effect immediately and continues through December 31, 2026.
