Lyon College Athletic Director Kevin Jenkins has announced the appointment of Shelden Struble as the next head coach of the Scots men’s wrestling program.
Jenkins said Struble brings a strong wrestling background, a passion for developing student-athletes and the leadership needed to build a competitive, championship-caliber culture.
“His commitment to excellence on the mat, in the classroom and throughout the recruiting process makes him a great fit for Lyon College,” Jenkins said. “We look forward to the future of Scots wrestling under his leadership.”
Struble comes to Batesville with coaching experience across the NAIA, NCAA Division 2, high school and club levels. His background includes athlete development, recruiting and program building.
He most recently served as an assistant coach at Siena Heights University, helping the Saints earn a 5-3 dual-meet record while assisting in the development of an NAIA national qualifier.
Struble previously worked as a graduate assistant at the University of Indianapolis, contributing to the recruitment and development of multiple NCAA Division 2 All-Americans and a national champion.
His additional coaching experience includes positions with Askren Wrestling Academy, Ringneck Wrestling Club and the nationally recognized J Robinson Intensive Wrestling Camps.
Struble previously served as head coach at Biggs High School in California, where he increased the program’s roster tenfold. He led the team to a 3rd-place conference finish and helped 4 wrestlers qualify for the CIF Masters Tournament.
“I’m excited to build something special at Lyon by creating a culture that develops servant leaders who compete with discipline, integrity and relentless effort,” Struble said.
Before beginning his coaching career, Struble was a 4-year letter winner and 3-year team captain at the University of Indianapolis. He became a 3-time NCAA Division 2 national qualifier and finished his career with the 3rd-most pins in school history. He received the Michael Horton Award in 2019.
The Bryan, Ohio, native earned his bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Indianapolis.
