Former Harding All-American Maddox Long Signs with Detroit Tigers Organization

Former Harding University All-American pitcher Maddox Long has signed a professional contract with the Detroit Tigers, becoming the latest Harding baseball standout to join a Major League Baseball organization.

The Tigers purchased Long’s contract from the Washington Wild Things of the independent Frontier League after he passed his physical. He will begin his affiliated professional career with the Rookie-level Florida Complex League Tigers in Lakeland, Florida.

The Morrilton native earned the opportunity following an outstanding start to his professional career. Long posted a 4-1 record with a 1.81 ERA over 44.2 innings, striking out 32 batters while issuing only 5 walks. He led the Frontier League with a 0.780 WHIP and ranked 2nd in earned run average among qualified pitchers.

Long completed one of the most successful pitching careers in Harding baseball history. During his senior season in 2025, he finished 11-3 with a 2.16 ERA, recording 122 strikeouts in 108.1 innings while earning Consensus First-Team All-American honors and Central Region Pitcher of the Year recognition.

In 2024, Long was named Great American Conference Pitcher of the Year after compiling a 6-1 record, a 3.33 ERA, and 107 strikeouts. During his 4-year Harding career, he recorded an impressive 386 strikeouts.

Long also excelled during summer collegiate baseball with the Green Bay Rockers, helping lead the club to Northwoods League championships in 2023 and 2025. During the 2025 season, he earned Midseason All-Star honors after posting a 3-1 record, a 0.95 ERA, and 37 strikeouts.

Long becomes the 7th player in Harding baseball history to sign with a Major League Baseball affiliated organization and joins a distinguished group of former Bisons that includes former MLB All-Star Preacher Roe.

He is also 1 of 4 former Harding players currently competing in professional baseball this summer.
