Lyon College head men’s basketball coach Thomas Orr has announced the hiring of Kyle Wright as the program’s new assistant coach.

Orr praised Wright’s work ethic and basketball knowledge, saying he has known him since his high school playing days at Texarkana High School.
“I am extremely excited for the hiring of Kyle Wright,” Orr said. “His work ethic as a player led him to having an outstanding playing career. He is the perfect example of culture buy-in. Coach Wright will bring a great depth of knowledge and energy to the development of our players.”
Wright began his collegiate playing career at Texas A&M University–Texarkana before transferring to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. During his time with the Crusaders, he helped lead the team to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, reaching the Elite 8 in 2022 and the Sweet 16 in 2023 while earning All-Conference honors both seasons.
After graduating, Wright joined Western Texas College as a volunteer assistant coach, where he worked in strength and conditioning, player development, recruiting, scouting and daily basketball operations. During his tenure, the program produced an NJCAA Freshman of the Year and recorded 4 victories over Top 25 opponents.
Wright also serves as a Point Guard College Camp Director, helping develop young basketball players from across the country.
“I am super blessed for the opportunity to impact so many lives, develop great basketball players and leaders, and help build a championship-level culture at Lyon College,” Wright said.
Originally born in Florida and raised in Texarkana, Texas, Wright earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a minor in Marketing from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The Fighting Scots continue preparing for the upcoming season with Wright now joining the Lyon College coaching staff.
