White County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff Phillip E. Miller has announced the promotion of Captain Heather King to Jail Captain, filling the position previously held by Chief Edwards.

Sheriff Miller praised King’s leadership and experience, noting her long record of service and dedication to law enforcement.
King began her career in public service with the military before joining the Arkansas Department of Corrections, where she rose to the rank of Lieutenant. After furthering her education, she joined the White County Sheriff’s Office in 2009 as a detention officer and quickly advanced through the ranks.
She later served in the Judicial Division, completing the Arkansas Law Enforcement Academy in 2014. King was promoted to Sergeant in 2015 and most recently served as Lieutenant of Judicial and Training in 2024.
Officials say King’s extensive background working with inmates, detention staff, and judicial operations makes her uniquely qualified to lead the jail division.
Sheriff Miller expressed confidence in her ability to bring strong leadership and renewed energy to the position.
