The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division has opened an investigation into an officer-involved shooting death at the request of the Izard County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the incident happened Saturday, April 18, 2026, around 9:45 a.m., when dispatch received a report of a disturbance involving a man reportedly armed with a knife and a hammer and making threats.
Deputies from Izard and Stone counties responded to a residence on Sylamore Vista Lane, where they encountered the suspect, identified as 35-year-old David Douglas of Mountain Home.
During the encounter, an Izard County deputy discharged a service weapon, striking Douglas. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Special Agents with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division will conduct an independent review of the use of deadly force. Once complete, the findings will be submitted to the Izard County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, which will determine if the actions were consistent with Arkansas law.
