A beloved member of KFFB 106.1‘s radio team has passed away.
Ernest Weldon Smith passed away on November 18th in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas. He was 92 years old. He lived a rich, full life.
Radio Broadcaster Passes Away
Locals may remember Weldon as a former U.S. Postal Service Postmaster in Shirley, Arkansas. He was also a Korean War veteran and community leader.
Weldon served as a weatherman for KFFB 106.1 radio for decades. He was one of the longest-serving team members with the radio station.
Weldon worked for the station long before current owners Bob and Pamela Connell bought it in the late 1990s.
Weldon also worked as a “board operator” during live radio remote broadcasts to control sound levels for KFFB remotes.
Arkansas Radio owner Bob Connell shared:
“Weldon was always there, eager to lend a hand in any way he could. I first met him in the ’80s when I was a DJ in Batesville. He’d volunteer for production work at our radio stations, often riding over on his Gold Wing Honda. I think he just needed an excuse to take that beautiful bike for a spin! We all miss his positive, happy-go-lucky spirit.”
He will be missed. You can read his obituary biography here.
