Click It or Ticket Campaign Launches Across Arkansas Ahead of Memorial Day Holiday

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Arkansas Highway Safety Office, and law enforcement agencies across Arkansas are reminding drivers and passengers to buckle up as the national Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign returns May 18 through May 31, 2026.
The high-visibility seat belt campaign coincides with the busy Memorial Day holiday travel period and will include increased daytime and nighttime enforcement across the state.
Arkansas Public Safety Secretary Colonel Mike Hagar said seat belt use should become routine for everyone inside a vehicle.
“Not buckling up could mean a ticket, or worse, risking a life,” Hagar said. “Seat belts save lives, and everyone — front seat and back, child and adult — needs to remember to buckle up.”
According to federal crash data, 9,758 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants were killed in crashes nationwide during 2024. Of those fatalities, 194 occurred in Arkansas.
Officials say nighttime crashes continue to be a major concern, with 56 percent of unrestrained occupant fatalities happening between 6 p.m. and 5:59 a.m. As a result, law enforcement agencies participating in Click It or Ticket will focus heavily on nighttime enforcement patrols.
The Arkansas Highway Safety Office is also reminding motorists to wear seat belts properly by:
Placing the shoulder belt across the middle of the chest and away from the neck
Positioning the lap belt across the hips and not the stomach
Never placing the seat belt behind the back or under the arms
The Click It or Ticket campaign is conducted nationwide each year to increase seat belt use and reduce fatal crashes involving unrestrained occupants.
