First Community Bank has donated $23,500 to Arkansas Children’s Hospital after a record-breaking fundraising effort for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September.
Employees across the Batesville-based bank’s Arkansas and Missouri locations raised an all-time high of $18,009.09. An additional contribution from First Community Bank brought the total donation to $23,500.
A Monthlong Team Effort
Throughout September, employees took part in fundraising activities, friendly competitions between departments and banking centers, branch challenges and special events. The campaign also included a silent auction featuring artwork created by Arkansas Children’s Hospital patients.
Floor and branch leaders helped coordinate activities and encourage participation. Employee spotlights shared personal stories, and artwork from children receiving care at Arkansas Children’s served as a reminder of the families at the heart of the effort.
“Every year, I am amazed by the compassion and enthusiasm our employees bring to this cause, and this year they truly outdid themselves,” said Mary Henderson, senior vice president and director of loan review at First Community Bank and co-organizer of the campaign. “What makes this campaign so meaningful is the children and families we are supporting. They are the true heroes, and we are honored to play even a small part in their journeys.”
“At First Community Bank, we believe that being a community bank means showing up for our neighbors, especially when they need us most,” said Boris Dover, president and chief operating officer of First Community Bank. “We are incredibly proud to support Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the important care it provides to children and families throughout our region.”
The Committee Behind the Campaign
The bank’s childhood cancer awareness committee was led by Henderson and Pat Rutherford. Members included Miyah Merced, Nikki Bittle, Ashley Davis, Maddie Cruthis, Joan Brady, Lindy Hopper, Gene Crawford, Canon Luter and Jamie Moore.
