A surprising rescue effort unfolded on Arkansas’s popular hiking trails on Monday, drawing swift attention from the local community.
Petit Jean firefighters responded to two simultaneous calls on Monday, rescuing an injured hiker on the Cedar Falls trail and attending to a vehicle crash near Mather Lodge, with injuries reported as minor.
Rescue of Hiker and Crash Response on Petit Jean
According to the Conway County Fire Department, the first call came from the Cedar Falls trail in Petit Jean State Park. Firefighters and state park rangers lifted the injured hiker, who had twisted her ankle, and carried her back up the trail. She was later taken home by family members for further care.
The joint effort emphasized the coordination between fire crews and park rangers in emergency situations. No other hikers required assistance at the time. The incident did not result in any additional injuries.
The second call involved a vehicle that left Highway 154 near Mather Lodge on Petit Jean Mountain and rolled over. Firefighters evaluated the driver, who suffered only minor injuries. Med‑Tech EMS transferred the driver to St. Vincent Hospital in Morrilton.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, and Arkansas State Park Rangers are conducting an investigation. No fatalities were reported. Photo documentation of the scenes was provided by Amanda Jones.
