Community Water System has restored part of its pumping capacity, but officials say the system-wide water conservation order must remain in effect.
According to an updated notice, a portion of the utility’s pumping capacity was restored Sunday evening.
However, full restoration may still be several days away.
Officials said continued conservation is necessary because pumping capacity remains reduced while temperatures and demand for water remain high.
MECHANICAL FAILURE AFFECTED PUMPING EQUIPMENT
The conservation order was issued after Community Water System experienced a mechanical failure involving equipment responsible for moving water into the distribution system.
The mechanical problem, combined with high temperatures and increased demand, placed additional strain on the water system.
Crews have since restored part of the pumping capacity, but repairs are continuing.
Community Water System said it is working to restore full pumping capacity as quickly and safely as possible.
WATER SHOULD BE LIMITED TO ESSENTIAL USES
Customers are being asked to use water only for essential domestic purposes.
Permitted household uses include:
Cooking
Drinking
Bathing
Sanitation
Other necessary household activities
Customers should avoid nonessential water use while the order remains in effect.
CUSTOMERS ASKED TO AVOID OUTDOOR WATER USE
Community Water System is asking customers to refrain from:
Lawn irrigation
Power washing homes
Power washing vehicles
Power washing driveways and other outdoor surfaces
Filling residential swimming pools
Operating splash pads or similar recreational water features except on a limited basis when necessary
Reducing nonessential use will help ease pressure on the distribution system while the affected pumping equipment is repaired.
CREWS WORKING TO RESTORE CAPACITY
Community Water System said crews are working to repair the affected equipment and restore full pumping capacity as quickly and safely as possible.
The utility acknowledged that the conservation order may inconvenience customers but said cooperation across the system will help reduce demand during the critical period.
The conservation order will remain in effect until full pumping capacity has been restored.
No estimated time for lifting the order was included in the notice.
