Cabot School District leaders are praising first responders, medical personnel, athletic trainers and others who stepped in after multiple medical emergencies occurred at Panther Stadium Friday night.
In a joint statement, Superintendent Michael Byrd, Athletic Director Scott Reed and Head Football Coach Lance Clark said the emergencies involved a staff member, a student-athlete and a Panther fan.
District leaders said what could have become a very different situation was met with an immediate response from first responders, medical personnel, athletic trainers, student athletic trainers and staff.
Other medical professionals who were attending the game also stepped forward to help.
SCHOOL LEADERS PRAISE QUICK RESPONSE
Byrd, Reed and Clark said the training, quick response and compassion shown by those who assisted made an important difference during the emergencies.
The district also thanked students and Panther fans for their patience, understanding and compassion throughout the evening.
Little Rock Christian players, coaches, staff and fans were also recognized for the support and concern they showed the Cabot community.
School officials said the difficult situation brought people together as those in attendance worked to care for one another.
GAME ENDED AFTER MEDICAL EMERGENCY
According to the district statement, teams were removed from the field following the first medical emergency.
Coaching staffs and administrators from Cabot and Little Rock Christian then met to discuss what should happen next.
School officials said football had become secondary and both schools agreed that ending the game was the appropriate decision for the teams and everyone involved.
Little Rock Christian was leading Cabot 14–7 when the game was stopped.
The district said that score will stand as the final score.
INDIVIDUALS RECOVERING
Cabot School officials said all individuals who received medical care at Panther Stadium Friday night are either at home or continuing to recover.
The district asked the community to continue keeping those affected and their families in their thoughts and prayers.
Officials described the evening as a reminder that some things are much bigger than football and expressed appreciation for school staff, emergency personnel and everyone who stepped forward when help was needed.
