Families have 1 final opportunity to enjoy Summertime Saturday hours at Pioneer Village in Searcy.

The historic attraction will welcome visitors Saturday, August 22, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., weather permitting. Pioneer Village is located at 1200 Veterans Way in Searcy.

Pioneer Village features a collection of historic buildings representing life in the 1880s. During its open houses, volunteers demonstrate what daily life would have been like for Arkansas families during the 1800s.

The facility also serves as a city park. The grounds are open for self-guided visits from sunrise to sunset, although the buildings are generally locked outside official events. Guided tours and school field trips may be scheduled by calling 501-278-5010. The address, telephone number and daily grounds access are confirmed by the City of Searcy.

Visitors should also mark their calendars for the Pioneer Village Fall Open House scheduled for November 7-8.

Pioneer Village began during the 1960s through the efforts of Oran Vaughan and other community supporters. It was originally located at the White County Fairgrounds near Davis Drive before moving to Higginson Road, now Veterans Way, in 2002.

The village was established in 1967 and is supported by the White County Historical Society, Friends of Pioneer Village, the City of Searcy and other community organizations, according to the White County Historical Society.

Planned improvements supported by the Searcy Advertising and Promotion Commission include a new roof for the Garner Train Depot, repairs to the Samson Windmill and renovations to the Cotton Display area.

Additional projects include space for a 1897 printing press, locally manufactured metal gates, picnic table and bench maintenance, battery-powered lanterns, a ramp and new signage.
