Lyon College has received a generous gift from Dr. Renate Rosenthal to establish the Rosenthal-Campbell Scottish Travel Award, helping students in the college’s Scottish Heritage program pursue educational opportunities in Scotland.

The newly established award will provide travel stipends for students participating in Lyon College’s pipe band who plan to study piping, drumming, Highland dance or Scottish textile manufacture in Scotland.
The award builds on Rosenthal’s long-standing support of the college and its Scottish Heritage program, providing students with opportunities to experience firsthand the cultural traditions they study and perform in Arkansas.
Cindy Barber, associate vice president for advancement at Lyon College, praised Rosenthal for her generosity and commitment to students.
Pipe Major James Bell said the contribution will help the program continue offering exceptional learning opportunities that reflect the mission of Lyon College.
Rosenthal previously established the Robert Lewis Campbell Memorial Endowed Scholarship and the Dr. Renate Rosenthal Endowed Scholarship. Other scholarships supporting students include the Lenard Adler Memorial Endowed Scholarship, the Nancy Woodard Scholarship and awards established by Scottish clan societies.
Her contributions also include facilitating the transfer of more than 3,000 Celtic music CDs, leading to the establishment of the Robert Lewis Campbell Collection and the creation of the Celtic Crossroads podcast.
Kenton Adler, director of advancement for Scottish Heritage at Lyon College, said the collection preserves music from across the Celtic world while honoring the legacy of Robert Campbell.
The Scottish Heritage program will be featured during ScotsFest, the 46th Arkansas Scottish Festival and Homecoming, October 23-25, 2026, on the Lyon College campus in Batesville.
The annual festival celebrates Scottish music, dance, athletics and cultural traditions while highlighting Lyon College’s commitment to preserving and sharing Scottish heritage.
Those interested in supporting the Scottish Heritage program or establishing a scholarship may contact Kenton Adler at 870-307-7548 or kenton.adler@lyon.edu.
