Seventeen works created by talented area high school students are being showcased at Lyon College following a competitive selection process for the fourth annual Batesville Area Young Artists Exhibition.
Lyon College recognized the participating students during a reception and awards presentation Friday, July 31, in Kresge Gallery. Juror Kori Foster selected the 17 featured works from more than 75 submissions received from students across the Batesville area.
Landry Martin of Southside High School earned first place and a $300 award for “Persistence of Mask and Madness.”
Lexi Bledsoe of Batesville High School received second place and a $200 award for “Female Gaze.”
Phoebe Balser of Southside High School earned third place and a $100 award for “Self Portrait.”
Shelby Halcom of Southside High School received an honorable mention and a $50 award for “Slice of Life.”
Dustyn Bork, professor of art and director of Kresge Gallery, said the annual exhibition highlights the creativity, technical ability and perspectives of young artists from across the region.
Bork said the program celebrates student accomplishments while giving emerging artists the valuable experience of displaying their work in a professional gallery. The exhibition also helps strengthen connections between Lyon College, area schools and the surrounding community.
Kresge Gallery hosts exhibitions throughout the year featuring professional artists, faculty members, college students and regional artists. The gallery serves as a cultural resource for Lyon College and the Batesville community.
The Batesville Area Young Artists Exhibition is open to the public in Kresge Gallery, located inside the historic Alphin Humanities Building on the Lyon College campus at 2300 Highland Road in Batesville.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking is available in the crescent lot in front of Brown Chapel and the Fine Arts Building.
