Beverly Vance Aikins, the mother of Vice President JD Vance, will share her personal experience with addiction and recovery during a special service Friday, July 31, in Jonesboro.
The Seven Recovery service will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Sanctuary Church, located at 3119 Rook Road.
Organizers said Aikins will discuss addiction, forgiveness, rebuilding relationships and finding hope through recovery.
According to a release from Sanctuary Church, Aikins struggled for years with an addiction to prescription pain medication that later led to the use of other substances.
Aikins eventually entered recovery with support from her faith and community.
Since beginning her recovery journey, Aikins has shared her experiences with recovery groups, churches, treatment centers and other organizations across the country.
Her story was featured prominently in her son’s memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy,” which described the challenges addiction created for their family and the effect it had on their relationships.
Aikins has publicly discussed achieving long-term sobriety and rebuilding relationships with members of her family.
During Friday’s service, organizers said she will offer a personal message for individuals and families affected by substance use disorders.
The event is expected to focus on the challenges of addiction while emphasizing forgiveness, community support and the possibility of recovery.
Sanctuary Church is inviting members of the Jonesboro community and surrounding areas to attend the special service.
