Lyon College has announced the promotion of Katherine Mayberry as the new head coach of the Scots men’s and women’s cross country and track and field programs.

Lyon College Athletic Director Kevin Jenkins announced the appointment and praised Mayberry’s leadership, dedication to student-athlete success, and passion for Scots athletics.

“Kathy is a proud Lyon alumna, who brings a deep passion for Scots athletics and a proven dedication to student-athlete success,” Jenkins said. “Her leadership will elevate our programs to new heights.”

Mayberry previously served as assistant coach for the programs, helping guide numerous student-athletes to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors. During her tenure, multiple athletes earned SLIAC All-Conference Team recognition in both cross country and track and field, while several others were named to the SLIAC All-Academic Team.

Under her coaching leadership, 29 student-athletes were selected as SLIAC All-Conference Team members, and 1 athlete earned recognition as Men’s Field Athlete of the Year.

Mayberry said she is excited to begin the next chapter of her coaching career at Lyon College.

“I’m super excited about my new position and can’t wait to get started on this new journey,” Mayberry said. “I’ve always dreamed to coach here at Lyon College because this is where I started my running career.”

Before returning to Lyon College, Mayberry worked in the San Antonio Independent School District from 1987 through 2017. During that time, she coached soccer, volleyball, track, and cross country while also serving as an assistant basketball coach.

A native of Walnut Ridge Arkansas, Mayberry graduated from Batesville High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Lyon College along with a master’s degree in education administration from Concordia University in Austin Texas. She was inducted into the Lyon College Hall of Fame in 2017.
