The Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a female inmate was found unresponsive Thursday evening at the Lonoke County Detention Facility.
According to officials, deputies responded to the incident at approximately 6:09 PM. Staff members and other inmates immediately began emergency medical care, including CPR, until EMS personnel arrived on scene.
The inmate was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
Sheriff John Staley has requested the Arkansas State Police conduct an independent investigation into the incident in the interest of transparency. Authorities stated there are currently no indications of foul play.
Officials said the identity of the inmate is not being released pending notification of family members.
The investigation remains active and no additional information has been released at this time. Any further inquiries are being directed to the Arkansas State Police.
