The competition was sweet and the judging was tough as 18 delicious homemade pies were entered into the Senior Citizen Pie Contest during Senior Citizens Day at the 105th Independence County Fair in Batesville.
Contest organizers announced the winners after judges sampled entries in the Fruit, Nut and Cream Pie categories.
Rocky Sutton claimed 1st Place and Best of Show Nut Pie with a Pecan Pie that impressed judges enough to also capture the Overall Grand Champion title.
Camille Berry earned 1st Place and Best of Show Fruit Pie honors with her Apple Pie.
Wendy Henderson took home 1st Place and Best of Show Cream Pie honors with her Key Lime Pie.
The annual pie contest is one of the most popular events during Senior Citizens Day at the Independence County Fair, showcasing the baking talents of area residents and bringing together fairgoers for a friendly competition.
