The Jacksonville Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 6-year-old boy Sunday evening in Pulaski County.

According to Jacksonville Police, officers responded at approximately 7:30 PM on May 17, 2026, to reports of shots fired in the 4000 block of South Highway 161.
While officers were en route, dispatchers advised that one individual had suffered a gunshot wound connected to the incident.
When officers arrived, they discovered a 6-year-old juvenile male inside a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately rendered aid before the child was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Police said the 2 adults who were inside the vehicle with the child were not injured.
Investigators say the case remains under active investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
