The Arkansas Optometric Association honored U.S. Senator John Boozman with its Lifetime of Excellence Award in recognition of his career in optometry, public service, and advocacy for patient access to vision care.

Boozman said it was an honor to be recognized by fellow optometrists dedicated to improving eye health and strengthening the profession.
Before entering public office, Boozman co-founded an eye-care practice with his brother in Northwest Arkansas that became a major regional provider of vision services. He also established the low vision program at the Arkansas School for the Blind in Little Rock and participated in mission trips providing care in Haiti and Costa Rica.
Boozman completed pre-optometry studies at the University of Arkansas before earning his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in 1977.
As a member of Congress, Boozman has supported legislation focused on expanding access to vision care, improving physician reimbursement, supporting children and underserved populations, and assisting servicemembers with combat-related eye injuries.
Arkansas Optometric Association Executive Director Matt Burns said Boozman has made a lasting impact on optometry and patient care in Arkansas and across the nation.
The Arkansas Optometric Association, founded in 1906, presented the award during its annual convention honoring leaders who have contributed to the profession and patient outcomes.
