Students interested in biology, aquatic life, and hands-on science exploration will have the opportunity to dive into the hidden world beneath the surface during a unique summer camp at Lyon College.

The weeklong camp, titled “From Microbes to Axolotls,” is scheduled for June 1-5 from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. inside Room 113 of the Derby Center for Science and Mathematics on the Lyon College campus at 2300 Highland Road in Batesville.

Designed for students entering grades 7 through 12, the camp will focus on aquatic organisms and biological science through hands-on learning experiences, laboratory activities, dissections, and interactive lectures.

Participants will study microscopic protists under microscopes, examine fish and amphibian anatomy, and learn how aquatic organisms survive in difficult environments. Students will also explore scientific concepts including respiration, movement, and osmoregulation, which helps organisms maintain proper water and salt balance.

Dr. Maryline Jones, associate professor of biology and chair of the Natural Sciences division at Lyon College, said the camp is designed to give students practical laboratory experience while helping them develop a greater appreciation for aquatic ecosystems and biological diversity.

The summer camp is ideal for students interested in biology, animal science, environmental studies, and related scientific fields.

The cost to attend is $150.
