Southside School District to Celebrate Major Campus Expansion with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

The Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce and Southside School District will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the district’s new junior and senior high school additions at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2026.

Community members, families, school supporters, and local leaders are invited to attend the celebration and tour the newly expanded campus in Batesville.

The multi-million-dollar expansion includes approximately 146,000 square feet of new facilities funded through a 2021 millage initiative. District officials say the project represents a major investment in education, student safety, and future growth throughout the Southside community.

Construction on the project began in August 2023 and connects the new additions to the district’s existing junior and senior high school buildings.

The expansion features new classrooms, advanced science and technology labs, upgraded athletic facilities, a fine arts suite, expanded cafeteria and dining areas, arena seating, concession spaces, and additional safe rooms designed to improve campus security.

Superintendent Dion Stevens said the project demonstrates the district’s commitment to providing students with a modern learning environment while preparing for continued enrollment growth.

“The Southside School District continues to invest in opportunities that strengthen education, safety, and student experience,” Stevens said. “This expansion represents a tremendous commitment to the future of the district and to families throughout the region.”

District leaders say the ribbon-cutting ceremony will provide the public with an opportunity to celebrate the completion of one of the largest campus improvement projects in district history.
