Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred early Monday morning in Independence County.
According to officials, deputies were called to the scene around 3:20 a.m. on March 23, 2026, on Brown Lane.
When deputies arrived, they discovered 1 person deceased at the scene. A second victim had already been transported to a local hospital by family members before law enforcement arrived.
Investigators have identified a person of interest in the case as Christopher L. Johnston, born 1978.
Authorities say Johnston was last seen in the 1600 block of Bethesda Road, and law enforcement is actively searching for him.
