New Rescue Boat Training Completed
All three shifts of the Jacksonville Fire Department completed basic boat operations training this week. The training also included in‑service instruction on the department’s newly acquired rescue boat. The curriculum covered navigation, safety procedures, and rescue techniques.
The rescue boat was purchased with a grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. Department officials expressed deep gratitude for the foundation’s continued support of local public safety. The grant made the acquisition possible without diverting municipal funds.
With training finished, the boat will be placed into service once processing and final paperwork are completed. Once operational, the vessel will expand the department’s capacity to respond to water emergencies. It is expected to serve Jacksonville and surrounding areas.
City officials announced the designation “Pride of the City” to recognize the gift and the department’s readiness. The acknowledgment reflects the community’s appreciation for enhanced water‑rescue capabilities. Further details about deployment dates have not yet been released.
