Karen K. Hutchins, Executive Director of the Arkansas Bar Association, has announced her retirement after 22 years of service to the Association.
Hutchins formally notified Association President Carol Dalby of her decision and shared the news with the Board of Trustees during its October 30 meeting.
22 Years of Growth and Change
Throughout her tenure, Hutchins has guided the Association through significant growth and change while keeping a strong focus on serving Arkansas attorneys and advancing the legal profession. She has worked closely with Association leadership, the Finance Committee, Executive Committee and Board of Trustees to strengthen operations and position the organization for the future.
Her leadership has helped modernize Association operations, strengthen member engagement and guide ArkBar through periods of significant change and extraordinary challenges.
Among the major initiatives she oversaw was the Association’s move from the Arkansas Bar Center to the Victory Building in downtown Little Rock in December 2024. She has also led ongoing efforts to strengthen the Association’s long-term sustainability and advance member services and technology.
“A Lasting Impact”
“Karen’s dedication, innovation and steady leadership have made a lasting impact on the Arkansas Bar Association and the legal community it serves,” said Association President Carol Dalby. “For more than 2 decades, she has brought tremendous knowledge, professionalism and commitment to this organization and its members. We are deeply grateful for her service and for the strong foundation she has helped build for the Association’s future.”
Hutchins’ leadership extends beyond the Arkansas Bar Association. She has served as President of both the National Association of Bar Executives and the Arkansas Society of Association Executives, and she holds the Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential.
Search for Next Executive Director
The Board of Trustees will soon begin the search for the Association’s next Executive Director, with a job announcement expected in the coming weeks. Hutchins will continue serving as Executive Director during the transition and will work closely with Association leadership and the Board to help ensure continuity for members, staff and ongoing initiatives.
“I believe it is important for the organization to have ample time to thoughtfully plan for leadership transition,” Hutchins said. “I look forward to supporting the Board of Trustees to ensure a smooth, well-organized succession process that protects the strength, stability and future direction of the Association. Serving the Arkansas Bar Association and its members has been one of the great privileges of my career.”
Additional information about the Executive Director search will be shared as it becomes available.
