Some very disturbing allegations in Greenbrier, Arkansas.

A Facebook post alleging that members of Greenbrier mayoral candidate Mark Hardin’s family took an opponent’s campaign sign while trick-or-treating drew more than 100 comments Saturday night before page administrators deleted it.

The original post appeared on the community page Greenbrier News You Should Know.

Post Deleted After Greenbrier Misconduct Reported

The anonymous poster wrote that a child riding in a trailer pulled by a side-by-side pulled up a Jason Bollinger for Mayor sign near the baseball fields off Louise Lane as adults laughed and cheered. The poster identified Hardin’s adult son, Christopher Hardin, as the driver and said Hardin’s wife was riding along.

In a comment, Hardin’s wife acknowledged the incident and apologized. She also said it was a private matter that should not have been posted publicly.

Several commenters said they had personally heard Mark Hardin laughing and bragging over the past month about his son “running over Jason’s signs.” Those claims have not been independently verified.

Some defended the family, saying the child was only six and people should cut them some slack. Others countered that a child that young was unlikely to come up with the idea alone, pointing to the adults’ cheering and how quickly the sign was hidden.

Some commenters called on Hardin to suspend his campaign. The original poster said they had already contacted the appropriate people about the incident.

The prevailing sentiment was that Greenbrier is better than this. Many said the community should expect more from those who want to lead the city.
