Lyon College, the City of Batesville and the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce will come together Friday, September 11, to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a community remembrance service.

The service will begin at 11 AM in the Brown Chapel and Fine Arts Building on the Lyon College campus at 2300 Highland Road in Batesville.

The gathering is being hosted by the Lyon College Chaplain’s Office in partnership with the city and chamber.

Organizers say the service will provide an opportunity for members of the Lyon College and Batesville communities to come together in remembrance and reflection as the nation marks 25 years since the attacks that claimed nearly 3,000 lives and changed the course of American history.

Batesville Mayor Rick Elumbaugh will deliver remarks about the impact of September 11 on the local community, including the loss of Batesville native Sara Low.

Low was a flight attendant aboard American Airlines Flight 11, the first plane hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Members of the City of Batesville and the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce are expected to attend the service. They will join Lyon College students, faculty, staff and community members in honoring those who lost their lives and reflecting on the tragedy’s lasting impact.

Community members are encouraged to attend.
