Cabot Mayor Ken Kincade has proclaimed September 17 through September 23 as Constitution Week in the City of Cabot.
Kincade, who is listed by the City of Cabot as the city’s mayor, signed the proclamation September 15.
The local proclamation recognizes the anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution and encourages Cabot residents to reflect on the principles and freedoms associated with the nation’s founding document.
September 17, 2026, marks the 239th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution.
According to the National Archives, delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution on September 17, 1787, in Philadelphia. The document established the framework for the federal government, although it still had to be ratified by the states before taking effect.
In the Cabot proclamation, Kincade describes the Constitution as the guardian of American liberties and notes its role in establishing limited government and rule by law.
The proclamation also recognizes the tradition of observing September 17 through 23 as Constitution Week.
Congress approved Public Law 84-915 in 1956, requesting that the President designate September 17 through September 23 each year as Constitution Week and invite Americans to observe the week with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
The National Archives also recognizes September 17 as Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, commemorating the signing of the Constitution in Philadelphia in 1787.
In his proclamation, Kincade asks Cabot residents to reaffirm the ideals of the Constitution’s framers and to recognize the freedoms guaranteed through the nation’s constitutional system.
The proclamation was signed September 15 and officially designates September 17-23, 2026, as Constitution Week in Cabot.
