The community of Beebe is watching as its police department intervenes in the AI survilance camera rollout across the city.
The news comes after it was recently revealed that Flock cameras are quietly performing “data harvesting” on residents. The company and companies like it are being used to build a dossier on every American.
Beebe police have asked Flock Safety to pause the automatic renewal of its license‑plate‑reader program while the city council deliberates, and the Arkansas Accountability Project reveals gaps in the department’s required reporting on the system’s results.
Beebe Puts Flock Renewal on Hold
On August 13, Beebe Police asked Flock to place its automatic renewal on hold. It was a request to delay the contract renewal while city council considered the program. The request was reported by the Arkansas Accountability Project.
Four days later, Flock offered assistance with “funding ideas/renewal conversations,” and Beebe replied that it wanted the renewal held pending a council vote. The city has not yet voted on the program’s future. No further details on the council’s timeline are known.
The Arkansas Accountability Project obtained daily plate‑count worksheets showing that only the ACIC/NCIC databases were checked by the system. When ARAP asked for the six‑month statistical records required by state law, the police department said it does not use the cameras for warrant arrests and has no further records to provide. The department stated the supplied data “is all that we have available.”
Arkansas law requires ALPR users to compile six‑month statistics on confirmed matches, false alerts and outcomes, but Beebe has not yet provided that information. The city announced the program will end when the contract expires in October. ARAP will monitor council minutes for the final decision and any explanation of the system’s effectiveness or cost.
