Bank of Cave City has received national recognition for its response to the devastating EF3 tornado that struck Cave City, earning the Independent Community Bankers of America’s 2026 National Community Bank Service Award in the Exceptional Community Bank Service category.
The award recognizes outstanding community service and volunteer efforts by community banks across the United States. Bank of Cave City is being featured with other national award winners in the September issue of ICBA’s Independent Banker magazine.
The $190 million-asset bank was recognized for serving as what ICBA described as a financial first responder after the EF3 tornado damaged Cave City, destroyed essential facilities and left the community without power or communications for weeks.
After making sure the bank could continue providing critical financial services, employees turned their attention to helping the community recover.
Bank employees distributed food, checked on neighbors and made supply runs as recovery efforts continued.
“After the tornado, our team—many of whom were personally affected—stepped forward because this is our home too,” Bank of Cave City President and CEO John Beller said.
Beller said helping the community during its time of need strengthened the bank’s commitment to its mission of empowering neighbors to flourish.
ICBA President and CEO Rebeca Romero Rainey praised the bank’s response, saying it represented “neighbors helping neighbors when it truly matters.”
ICBA also highlighted Bank of Cave City’s “We Live Here Too” initiative, which helps organize volunteer efforts and encourages employees to stay involved in the communities the bank serves.
The National Community Bank Service Awards program was launched in 2002 and has recognized hundreds of community banks for service projects and contributions in their hometowns.
Bank of Cave City was founded in 1906 and serves Cave City, Batesville, Evening Shade, Strawberry and Lynn, Arkansas, along with surrounding communities.
The full-service bank provides personal and commercial banking and has a strong focus on small businesses and agricultural lending for local farms.
