Lyon College has named Dr. Montrose A. Streeter its new dean of students, bringing more than 20 years of higher education leadership experience to the Batesville campus.
Dr. Streeter’s appointment became effective August 3, 2026.
Throughout his career, Dr. Streeter has held leadership roles spanning student affairs, campus life, enrollment and academic affairs. His work has focused on promoting student success, strengthening campus engagement and creating inclusive environments where students can learn, grow and thrive.
“Dr. Streeter is a thoughtful and experienced student affairs leader who understands the importance of supporting students throughout every stage of their college journey,” said Tommy Newton, vice president for enrollment management.
Newton said Dr. Streeter’s commitment to student development, collaboration and belonging will strengthen the student experience at Lyon College.
“We are excited to welcome him to our community,” Newton added.
Extensive higher education experience
Before joining Lyon College, Dr. Streeter served as vice president for student affairs at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, North Carolina.
He previously worked as associate vice president of campus life and dean of students at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York.
Dr. Streeter also served as assistant dean of students at Keuka College in Keuka Park, New York.
He began his higher education career at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee. His career has also included leadership positions at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina.
“Dr. Streeter’s broad experience across student affairs, enrollment and academic leadership gives him a comprehensive understanding of what students need to thrive,” said Dr. Anthony K. Grafton, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost.
Grafton said Dr. Streeter will be an important partner to Lyon College faculty and staff as the institution continues providing students with a transformative educational experience.
“He is deeply committed to student success,” Grafton said.
Responsibilities at Lyon College
As dean of students, Dr. Streeter will oversee student-life programs and services across the Lyon College campus.

Programs supporting student health and well-being
The dean of students works closely with students, faculty, employees and college leadership to build a positive campus environment and ensure students receive support throughout their college experience.
Ministry and community service
In addition to his higher education career, Dr. Streeter has served in ministry.
He is a former pastor of Sentertown Missionary Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Dr. Streeter currently serves as an associate minister at Sycamore Hill Missionary Baptist Church and Greenville First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Greenville, North Carolina.
Education and background
Originally from Greenville, North Carolina, Dr. Streeter studied religion as an undergraduate at Wake Forest University and Lees-McRae College.
He earned graduate degrees in education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and St. John Fisher College.
Dr. Streeter received his Doctor of Education degree in executive leadership from St. John Fisher College in 2011.
Lyon College officials said his combination of experience in student affairs, enrollment, academic leadership and ministry gives him a broad understanding of student development and the importance of building a supportive campus community.
